Deaf Teen Thrives in Retail Field

As a deaf 19-year-old, Caroline was eager to gain work experience within a retail environment. After being referred to Goodwill’s Community Based Training (CBT) program by VR Nevada, she went above and beyond to learn the ins and outs of the Goodwill thrift store where she was placed.

For the first two days of her 20-day retail assessment, Caroline worked with an ASL interpreter to get oriented in her new workplace. For the remainder of her training, she picked up on her assigned tasks very quickly and excelled at such responsibilities as distributing racks of clothing, stocking merchandise, sorting donations, and pricing merchandise.

Caroline’s trainer noted that she went above and beyond in her work, and she proved to be an excellent addition to the Goodwill team by always assisting her coworkers when they needed help.

With her positive attitude and quick learning, Caroline was able to pass her assessment with ease and looks forward to what the future has in store.

Goodwill instilled Caroline with confidence.
