Work Assessment Vaults Teen Forward

Seeking to gain new work experience within a retail environment, Oscar was referred to the Goodwill Community Based Training (CBT) program. Oscar was placed in a 20-day retail, warehouse, and janitorial training program to assess the autistic 18-year-old’s work readiness.

Right away, Oscar displayed an extremely positive attitude, excellent teamwork skills, and eagerness to help his co-workers and assist Goodwill customers. Oscar picked up on his assigned tasks very quickly and demonstrated proper motivation throughout his entire shift.

Demonstrating that his autism was not a barrier to important workplace attributes, Oscar passed his work assessment with ease. Oscar was thankful for the assessment, which furthered his plans to go to college and join the Navy.

Soon thereafter, Oscar found full time employment as a warehouse associate at Sephora, where he enjoys preparing merchandise for shipment alongside colleagues that he considers friends.

Goodwill assured Oscar that he was on his way.
