Goodwill Partners with Junior League Las Vegas to Bring Sustainable ‘Fashion Forward’
Upcycled Fashion Design Contest Challenges Local High School Students
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Apr. 30, 2022) – Goodwill of Southern Nevada (Goodwill®) was delighted to support Fashion Forward, a Junior League of Las Vegas (JLLV) project that promotes creativity, inclusiveness, and teamwork among local high school students.
Modeled after the popular fashion competition show Project Runway, Fashion Forward showcases the creative and technical skills of high school fashion designers. This year, seven Clark County School District high schools were represented among the 373 students competing to reach the final runway show at Springs Preserve.
The Fashion Forward theme, sustainability, inspired Goodwill to support each of the 110 couture participants with Goodwill store gift cards covering the purchase of garments that could be upcycled into new fashion items. In addition, Goodwill Director of Marketing and Communications Morgan Waldron joined Las Vegas fashion leaders Ricci Lopez, Larissa Navarro, and Kevin Smith to judge the competition and award five couture and five beginner students for their outstanding presentation and design skills.
Lila Asani and Lori Lopez Priest chaired the JLLV committee that executed the project, one of several focusing on impacting youth and education in the community. The positive experience by all concerned has led Goodwill to ponder the possibility of an annual fashion showcase focused on upcycled fashions.
