Ambitious Immigrant Charts New Career Path

Valentina was underemployed and working inconsistent hours when she decided to take her future into her own hands and earn her commercial driver’s license (CDL), which would provide her with stable employment and a steady income. But she faced a financial roadblock, as she was unable to pay for CDL training.

After consulting with a Goodwill career coach, who walked her through her options for tuition assistance, Valentina received the funding she needed to complete her CDL training.

Valentina, who was born in Romania and has lived in the United States for 18 years, was daunted by the idea of starting a new career, but she took the challenge in stride. Upon graduating and obtaining her CDL, Valentina was able to secure employment with Knight Transportation and is excited to embark on a new professional journey.

Her accomplishment has also given her newfound confidence in her own abilities and the possibilities that come with hard work. “If you have the will and strong desire to finish what you start, you will succeed,” she said. “Set your mind on success. Do not give up! Nothing can stop you.”
