Deaf Teen Takes Step Toward Career Goals

Sarah was recommended to the Goodwill Community-Based-Training (CBT) program for a work-readiness assessment. Although she had no prior work experience, the seventeen-year-old high school student’s deafness was not a barrier to learning quickly.

Through written and modeled instructions, expert Goodwill trainers helped Sarah learn how to process a wide range of donated goods and distribute them to the sales floor.

The motivation and focus she demonstrated throughout her 20-day assessment left her CBT trainers confident that she would be able to meet her immediate goal—employment at Sephora—but successfully pursue her long-term ambition to become a nurse.

Goodwill affirmed Sarah’s readiness for employment.
