Determined Young Man Carves Out His Niche

Trent, a 20-year-old with autism, was referred to Goodwill’s Community Based Training (CBT) program by VR Nevada.

As a first step, he participated in a 20-day assessment to gauge his readiness for a retail career. Despite his positive attitude and strong work ethic, he struggled to retain information, leading to a recommendation to pursue other career interests.

Determined to find his professional niche, Trent took advantage of Goodwill’s Summer Education Experience (SEE), which provided vocational training, further guidance, and instruction on all aspects of acquiring and maintaining employment. Working alongside a trainer, he learned how to put new skills to use at Goodwill’s warehouse, where demanufacturing computers perfectly suited his unique abilities.

Upon completing the SEE program, Trent was highly recommended for job placement and was soon hired full-time at the Goodwill warehouse.

Goodwill supported Trent’s unique abilities.
