From Homeless to Hopeful
Thearon enjoyed success as a chef, but when multiple personal issues hit him all at once, he ended up homeless and addicted to drugs. Facing criminal charges and possible jail time, Thearon realized he needed to get his life back on track.
After attending a rigorous court-ordered rehabilitation program that enabled him to clear his record after two years, Thearon asked the Goodwill Career Center for tuition assistance for commercial driver’s license (CDL) training. After conducting a career assessment, a Goodwill career coach secured grant funding that covered tuition at Southwest Truck Driver Training.
After successfully completing his training, Thearon passed the exams, secured a CDL, and quickly secured employment as a freight liner dump truck driver at with a local landscaping company. His excellent performance was quickly rewarded with a raise and additional endorsements to his license.
Thearon has since repaired relationships with his family, enjoys a social life, is saving for retirement, and dreams of owning his own trucking company. “Goodwill was able to take a homeless person off the streets and help me get my life back,” he said.
Goodwill helped Thearon get his life back.
