Stagehand 2.0 Training Steps Into the Spotlight

In early February, Goodwill Career Services piloted the Stagehand 2.0 training program, an in-house evolution of a course for job seekers seeking a career in the high-demand events industry.

Stagehand 2.0 participants are fast-tracked into employment after attending an industry-specific OSHA 10 General Industry and Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck certification training from an OSHA-authorized instructor. The training is preceded by the three-day Goodwill Thrive professional development workshop.

The pioneering class of four included a military veteran and caregiver to his parents who had been unemployed for over a year; an underemployed worker relying on public transportation; a re-entry individual who had been offered only temporary work; and an unemployed husband and father of two.

With the assistance of Goodwill’s employer partner, Rhino Staging, all four participants were offered immediate employment and will continue with the company’s onboarding process. Typical starting hourly wages average at least $20 per hour.

Goodwill jump-started Jezai's plan for career traction.

Even with a bachelor’s degree, Jezai struggled for two years to gain a foothold in her field. Research made it clear that becoming a professional truck driver could give her the experience she needed to get career traction. Needing help with training costs, Jezai enlisted a Goodwill career coach, who secured tuition funding. Upon completion of training, Jezai was immediately offered employment with a local trucking company. Read her story.

Goodwill Career Coach Marqueta Oliver served a four-year enlistment (E-4) in the U.S. Air Force, deploying to Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of 9/11. Prior to joining Goodwill in 2022, Marqueta engaged in nonprofit work as a program director for underserved, at-risk girls 13-24 as well as event and restaurant management. A Certified Nevada Veteran Advocate and Certified Professional Resume Writer, Marqueta is fulfilled by the opportunity to give back to the veteran community and impact change in Las Vegas. A League of Our Own: Dozens of volunteers from Junior League of Las Vegas helped organize the Boulevard Store prior to a meeting of the storied service organization's Provisional members. A fleet of Goodwill store managers were proud to showcase their processes for stewarding donated goods to the merchandise racks on the sales floor.
