Aspiring Healthcare Professionals
Sprint Through Goodwill Train-to-Hire Programs
On May 9, the Goodwill Training Academy welcomed 8 News Now reporter Mary Jane Belleza to interview medical training program participants. Goodwill's train-to-hire programs utilize a model called Training Sprints(SM) — accelerated professional skills training that moves participants into a high-demand career as quickly as possible.
In 2021, the region's acute demand for healthcare professionals inspired Goodwill to launch the 90-Day MA program in partnership with NV Careers and Intermountain Health, as well as collaborate with NV Hope to initiate a CNA Training bootcamp.

Goodwill helped Andrae follow his heart.
After leaving college early to care for his mother, Andrae discovered his passion for caregiving. Meager pay and unsupportive supervisors made his first job in healthcare field unfulfilling. After enrolling in Goodwill’s CNA training program, Andrae was hired by a local hospital, doubling his income as part of a “dream team.” He is now working to become a certified rehabilitation nurse. On March 30, Goodwill hosted a Workforce Development Leaders Breakfast featuring a keynote address from LVGEA President & CEO Tina Quigley. Executives from 12 area nonprofits discussed key issues concerning local workforce development initiatives.

Struggling from the trauma of an abusive relationship, Sara saw a medical career as a path to a better future for herself and her children. Goodwill guided her into training as a certified nursing assistant, leading to employment as a vaccine coordinator. Sara has set her sights on a thriving career in the medical field, fueled by a newfound belief in herself. Read her story.

High Schoolers Thrift, Thrive, and Move Fashion Forward
Goodwill of Southern Nevada once again partnered with the Junior League of Las Vegas Fashion Forward high school design competition. Goodwill provided $20 gift cards to 270 student participants to purchase thrift store items and repurpose them into new fashions. The April 29 showcase at Zappos in downtown Las Vegas featured finalists from seven high schools vying for stipends and one-on-one design workshops with local fashion experts.
