Annual Christmas Shopping Spree Spreads Holiday Cheer
Our Goodwill® team hosted their annual Christmas Shopping Spree at the Stephanie store and donation center on Friday, December 2. More than 70 children served by two local nonprofits, HopeLink of Southern Nevada and Children’s Advocacy Alliance, received $100 Goodwill® gift cards to shop throughout the store.
The children were greeted by Santa Claus and cheered by falling snow as they entered the store to begin their holiday shopping, accompanied by their parents and guardians.
The shopping spree is held every year around the holidays and is meant to help give local children and their families a much-needed boost. A similar event, Christmas in July, is also held annually to bring mid-summer cheer to the community.

For a second year in a row, Goodwill has been voted Best of Las Vegas Gold winner for Best Special Needs Program. Through partnerships with Nevada Vocational Rehabilitation (VR Nevada) and Clark County School District, Goodwill’s disability programs provide meaningful opportunities to people with different abilities so they can experience the dignity of work, a sense of purpose, and a fully inclusive culture.

A Creative Approach to Disability Programming
Among Goodwill’s disability programs is the Work Readiness Summer Program, which offers a combination of work experience in our stores with learning opportunities such as a class taught by local artists affiliated with Meow Wolf. The participants were guided as they used textiles and jewelry donated at Goodwill as raw materials for their creations.

Goodwill Impact: Disability Programs
In 2021, Goodwill of Southern Nevada provided 2,439 days of training for people living with disabilities. Real work environments allow us to assess participants’ current work skills and develop new skills needed for successful employment.
Goodwill shoppers routinely interact with Community Based Training (CBT) program participants in neon yellow vests undergoing 10-to-20-day work readiness assessments. Clad in blue vests are Student Work Experience Program (SWEP) participants who volunteer at a designated store once a week for one to two hours to gain job skills under their teachers’ supervision.

Goodwill gave Royce new skills and a career focus.
Royce’s autism and limited social skills were leading him to isolate at home to “game and hack” rather than pursue employment. Goodwill’s Electronic Demanufacturing and Recycling program exposed him to the inner workings of computer hardware as well as appropriate social interactions. Equipped with confidence and newfound focus, Royce looked forward to his next step: attending school to become an IT professional. Read his story.

Your Support is a Gift!
On behalf of thousands of people we serve each year, we are deeply grateful for your support throughout the year.
For nearly 50 years, Goodwill for Southern Nevada has evolved into a community pillar by training and placing people for jobs and thriving careers. When you support Goodwill’s career and veteran services, train-to-hire programs, and disability programs, you help our community thrive.
While donations of household goods fuel Goodwill’s social enterprise, monetary donations allow us to expand our capacity to provide no-cost services to ever more individuals looking for a hand up and a path to financial stability and upward mobility.
Please give today to put your Goodwill to work for our community!
