Healthcare Career Becomes a Source of Pride
Alexandra wanted to embark on a career in healthcare, but was discouraged during her job search, as most employers required certifications that were out of reach due to financial and logistical barriers. That all changed when a loved one sent her an article about Goodwill’s Medical Assistant (MA) education program. The 90-day training program would qualify her for a paid 1,200-hour externship while earning her MA certificate.
She immediately headed to Goodwill, where she enrolled in the MA program and signed up for one-on-one coaching and supportive services. Her greatest accomplishment is knowing that “all the new skills and knowledge that I’ve gotten…will be able to help people during their time of need.” Looking to the future, she feels “optimistic, proud, and a sense of accomplishment.”
Ultimately, Alexandra wants to continue her education and become a Nurse Practitioner. Until then, her goal is “to be the best medical assistant I can be.”
Goodwill helped Alexandra break through barriers.
