Homeless Man Takes Future Into His Hands

Chris was unemployed, homeless, and struggling to find hope for the future when he came to Goodwill. Having seen Goodwill’s ads on public transportation and researching their services online, he knew the Goodwill Career Center would be able to provide him with training and opportunities he needed to get his life back on track.

After meeting with a career coach and exploring various Goodwill train-to-hire programs, Chris enrolled in the two-week Stagehand Training Program, putting him on the fast track to a career in the events and entertainment industry. Through the program, he learned basic stagehand skills and earned OSHA certification required of the role. During his training, Goodwill also assisted with transportation and clothing costs to minimize barriers to completing the program.

Soon after completing the program, Chris secured employment in the events and entertainment industry and began a new chapter in his life. He calls his time with Goodwill a “life-changing opportunity” that allowed him to discover “new hope” and a “new me.” Now, with a stable career, newfound confidence, and his couch-surfing days far behind him, Chris can’t wait to see what’s next.

Goodwill set the stage for Chris’s new career.
