Job Loss Leads to a Bright New Road

When Daniel lost his job in the medical field, he saw it as an opportunity to forge a new career path: transporting goods around the country as a semi-truck driver.

With their saving dwindling, they needed help to make ends meet and pay for truck driving school. A friend who had been helped by Goodwill recommended that he visit a Goodwill Career Center for assistance.

Daniel was paired with a Goodwill career coach, who started by removing barriers that stood in the way of his path forward. A bus pass supported Daniel’s transportation to and from the career center, and a clothing voucher covered work boots that he needed for employment.

Goodwill’s biggest lift came in the form of tuition to Southwest Truck Training School, which was funded by customer contributions at Goodwill stores. Upon receiving his Commercial Driver License (CDL) certification, Daniel was hired by Swift Trucking.

Daniel loves his new career, as it is a source of pride, financial stability for his family, and adventure on America’s highways. He dreams of working for himself and buying a home for him and his wife.
