Resilient Man Secures His Future
Aaron was homeless, living in his car, and struggling to make ends meet when he came to the Goodwill Career Center. Barely surviving off minimum-wage part-time and temp jobs, and with no family around to help support him financially, he was determined to make a change and find a career that offered him the security he needed.
He decided to pursue a career as a long-haul truck driver, which offered him stability, purpose, and housing while on the job. Most importantly, a long-haul truck driver’s salary would allow him to earn enough money to start saving for the future and eventually secure permanent housing of his own.
After speaking to a career coach, Aaron learned about Goodwill’s Opportunity Accelerator program, through which he was able to receive the tuition assistance he needed to attend training for his commercial driver’s license (CDL).
Shortly after graduating and earning his CDL, he was hired by AMI Transportation and is thrilled with his new career path. “I couldn’t have done it without Goodwill, and I can’t thank them enough,” he said of his support system at Goodwill, which he credited for provided him “tons of help.”
Goodwill rerouted Aaron to a stable career.
