Survivor’s CNA Training Inspires Her Daughter
When she approached Goodwill, Sara was struggling from the trauma of an abusive relationship. Referred by the City of Las Vegas CDBG Domestic Survivors Grant program, she enrolled in the CNA Training Program, seeing a medical career as a pathway to a better future for herself and her children.
At her graduation, Sara’s daughter shared that she wants to be like Sara when she grows up. “I can now be a mentor to my daughter,” she shared, never imagining that could be possible.
However, the future she worked so hard to build was nearly derailed by a terrible car accident. Goodwill marshalled donations to help Sara return to the road, setting her back on a promising path.
Sara was eager to end the government assistance that had supported her and her family for years. Equipped with her certified nursing assistant training, she was hired by Nevada Partners as a vaccine coordinator. At first, adjusting from being a stay-at-home single mom to working a set 9-to-5 schedule wasn’t easy, but she rose to the challenge and has set her sights on a thriving career in the medical field.
“Little did I know how gratifying and fulfilling it would be helping others,” said Sara. “It's crazy where life can take you when you work hard.” Her passion for helping the community carries Sara towards her dream of owning a home where everyone has their own bedroom.
Sara reflected on how Goodwill and Nevada Partners helped her find her path forward. “I have people in my life, a support team, who saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself,” she said. “Now I'll never stop seeing it.”
Goodwill helped Sara believe and achieve.
