Woman Enters Workforce with Confidence

Ashley was eager to identify her strengths and gain her first work experience. However, due to a developmental disability, Ashley’s struggle with reading, focusing, and socializing complicated her search for employment.

VR Nevada referred Ashley to Goodwill for a formal assessment of her readiness for employment. During her 20-day Community Based Training assessment, Ashley’s trainer took care to accommodate her unique needs. He provided one-on-one instruction, written reminders, and repeated verbal and modeled directions to ensure that Ashley could get the most out of her training.

Ashley’s assessment determined that with the right training, she was more than able to work independently, and she was recommended for job placement. With newfound confidence in herself and a new set of work skills, Ashley is positive that she’ll be able to find a job that is right for her. The first goal in her sights: employment as a stocking clerk at Walmart.

Goodwill prepared Ashley for her very first job.
