Goodwill of Southern Nevada Launches Training Academy to Expand Workforce Development

Nonprofit hosts community leaders for ribbon cutting and tour of training facilities

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (August 25, 2022) – Goodwill of Southern Nevada (Goodwill®) celebrated the opening of the Goodwill Training Academy with a program, ribbon cutting, and tours of facilities designed to further careers in healthcare and skilled trades.

The event welcomed U.S. Rep. Susie Lee, Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft, City of Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony, each of whom offered remarks citing the need for workforce development programs in Southern Nevada. The program also acknowledged the Gene Haas Foundation and Tony and Renee Marlon Charitable Foundation, whose pioneering philanthropic support kickstarted the Goodwill train-to-hire programs that will be housed at the academy.

“We are proud to celebrate the launch of our Goodwill Training Academy alongside partners whose past, present, and future support will enable us to meet urgent needs for trained professionals in key industries,” said Goodwill President and CEO Rick Neal. “What started out less than a year ago as an idea is now a fully realized institution that will make important contributions to our community. Our aim is to not only meet the employers’ needs for a ready and able workforce, but to also provide job seekers with the opportunity to establish a thriving career with upward mobility.”

The Goodwill Training Academy occupies 2,500 square feet of space at the Goodwill corporate headquarters. The facilities include a professional skills lab, training room, and fully equipped healthcare skills lab that simulates an authentic clinical setting. The academy is currently serving participants in the 90-Day MA medical assistant education program and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program. Additional train-to-hire programs are currently in development.
